"We are gravely concerned by the recent explosion of the inter-Korean liaison office in Kaesong by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. There is an urgent need to exercise restraint and take concrete actions to prevent any further escalation. Rising tensions can undermine the realization of a comprehensive and lasting peace process in the Korean Peninsula.
As representatives of the European citizens, we affirm the value of dialogue as the main instrument to solve critical tensions and urge to refrain from any further actions, which can only destabilise the region. The EU is engaged in facilitating the political process and also in implementing projects on the ground and believes that confrontation and provocation will always be a losing approach.
We therefore call to restore communication and a climate of mutual trust in line with the significant achievements made in the past years. Leaders will be judged by those achievements and by the success of addressing the people's aspiration to peace and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Finally, we call on the EU to seek a sustainable peace on the peninsula in foreign policy dialogues with its strategic partners."
